AXN India, the number one English general entertainment channel in India for the last five years, today announced a content acquisition deal with CBS Studios International, bringing the most popular US series to India. AXN, which has always been home to some of the most-followed international franchises from the CBS stable including “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “NCIS: Los Angeles,” has now acquired five more shows, namely “Elementary,” “Beauty and The Beast,” “Blue Bloods,” Hawaii Five-0” and “Reckless.”
The channel with the highest reach across India will have exclusive rights to air all episodes of the newly acquired shows from CBS Studios International starting this January. AXN has been on top of the game for over a decade and a half and a natural fit for the popular shows of CBS Studios International. AXN in 2014 will continue to be a popular platform for popular shows for the Indian viewers.
“Elementary,” “Blue Bloods” and “Hawaii Five-0” are amongst the top 20 most viewed shows in the US.
Talking about the deal, Sunil Punjabi, Business Head, AXN India said, “The current deal with CBS Studios International has only strengthened our long-standing relationship with them. AXN has always been the home to “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.” The new shows will further add approx. 100 hours of content airing close to the US every year. Some of the iconic shows that are being acquired are “Elementary,” “Beauty and The Beast,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Blue Bloods,” among others. We are also bringing another brand new series called “Reckless,” which will be aired close to the US in India. This deal is all set to strengthen the ever-expanding bouquet of AXN programming.”
Sunil Punjabi says, “’Elementary’” is a modern take on Sherlock Holmes, set in the United States.” Jonny Lee Miller, who plays the consultant for the NYPD, is seen with a female Dr. Watson played by Lucy Liu, who won the 2013 Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Actress, Action. Another show that will be seen on the channel is “Beauty and The Beast,” which has had a viewership of over 1.3 million this season and won the 2013 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama. Sunil Punjabi added, “Lucy Liu adds a completely different take to “Elementary.” Her popularity will add more male-driven audiences to the channel”.
With the all new seasons of “Elementary” and “Beauty and The Beast” premiering together on 27th January, AXN India is geared up to give a New Year treat to its viewers who love sci-fi youth drama airing on the channel— “Teen Wolf” and “Supernatural.”
